Midget Majors win 2nd Consecutive CDYHL Championship PDF Print E-mail
2007_league-champs_small Windsor CO, 02-25-2007

The Colorado Junior Eagles Midget Major A team won their 2nd consecutive league championship this past weekend in Windsor CO. The Eagles were the number one seed in the league tourny and started things off with a tight 5-3 win over CHC on Friday night.

Early Saturday morning the Eagles suffered their only loss all season at the A level by losing a close game to Pueblo 2-1. This put the boys in the losers bracket and they would have to win this thing the hard way.

Saturday night the Eagles faced CHC again and rolled 7-3.

Sunday morning's 7AM game vs. Pueblo was do or die for the Eagles and they came away with a nice 3-1 victory. Yet since the tournament is double elimination the Eagles would have to face Pueblo again later that afternoon for the winner take all championship game. The Eagles didn't waste their opportunity and took care of business beating the Pueblo Panthers 5-1 in the final game of the tournament. This represents the Eagles 2nd consecutive league championship at this level and also secured them as the number 1 seed in the CAHA State Tournament the following weekend.

2005-2006 Midget Major CAHA State Champions
Breckenridge CO, 03-12-2006

Fresh off their CDYHL league championship the Colorado Junior Eagles midget major team came into the CAHA state championship tournament the number 1 seeded team in the tournament. This setup a rematch with Pueblo in the first round. Pueblo played a smart game and lead 4-3 with less than two minutes to go in the game. The Eagles pulled their goalie and Aaron Lam found a way to put the puck in the net with only 1:23 to go on the clock sending the game into overtime. In overtime the Eagles found themselves on the powerplay and won the game with a beautiful play by Dominic Guttormson and Chris Aarvig who put the puck top shelf.

The Eagles would go on to play a well coached hard working Foothills team in the final game. The Eagles got the lead early on a pretty play by Jordan Guttormson and Collin Kuhn but Foothills wasn't ready to quit and tied up the game in the second period. The third period was a goalie showdown and both the Foothills goalie and the Eagles Daniel Wood played fantastic sending the game into overtime in a 1-1 tie. No team could get the puck past either goalie in the first overtime setting up DOUBLE OVERTIME. In double OT Hank Stabenau sent a brilliant long pass directly on the tape of "Mr. Clutch" Chris Aarvig who blazed a trail and faked out the goalie bankhanding the puck in the net to secure the victory!

The Colorado Junior Eagles swept the CAHA Midget division winning both the Midget Minor and Major divisions.

The Colorado Jr Eagles Midget Major team went undefeated and won the annual Eddie Mcpherson memorial tournament in Casper Wyoming.

The Eagles got off to a fast start by beating the host team "The Oilers" from Casper on Friday night in front of a packed arena with local news channels filming all the excitement. The Eagles beat the hard working Oilers 6-0. Later that same night the Jr. Eagles knocked off Team Wyoming 5-2

The next afternoon the Eagles faced the Hyland Hills AA '89 team which gave the Eagles a fantastic game in which the Eagles won 3-1. The last pool play game for the Eagles had them facing a very talented Jackson Hole Wyoming team but the Jr. Eagles were on a role at this point and won 5-0.

The championship game featured the Jr. Eagles vs. the Hyland Hills Jaguars. The Eagles started extremely slow and were dominated by the Jaguars in the first period but due to awesome goaltending by the Eagles the first period ended 0-0. After a quick ice make and what must have been an inspiring speech by the Eagles coaching staff it was all Eagles from there on out. The Eagles went on to win the championship 5-0 over the Hyland Hills Jaguars.
