Breckenridge CO, 03-12-2006
The Jr. Eagles Minor A team was undefeated in league play (13-0-2) and
won their first two league playoff games (including a 4-3 win over
Aspen) before losing to Aspen twice last Sunday (5-4 in overtime and
2-1) in the league championships.
The Eagles entered the State Playoffs as the number three seed, facing
Aspen for the fourth time in eight days. The Junior Eagles outworked
Aspen throughout the game, recording a 3-0 win behind goalie Josh Smith, who recorded the shutout.
The Junior Eagles' opponent in the championship game, Hyland Hills
Midget Minor A-1, came into the game with a record of 37-0-2, having
won every tournament they entered and ranked third in the nation at the
Minor A level according to one website. But the Junior Eagles had
scrimmaged Hyland Hills on February 19 and felt confident that, as the
game wore on, the bigger Jaguars would tire.
This game plan worked to perfection. Key to the Minor A effort was the outstanding effort of goalie Josh Smith, who stopped 31 Jaguar shots. Zach Bever scored an unassisted goal less than two minutes into the game to get the Junior Eagles onto the board and Seamus O'Connor, assisted by Robbie Jones, tied the score at 2-2 with just 1:56 remaining in the second period. After a quick Jaguars goal to start the third period, Reilly McCluskey netted the game tying goal with just 2:30 remaining in the third period, assisted by Lee Foley. Reilly McCluskey also converted the game winner 5 minutes and 59 seconds into the overtime, assisted by Wyatt Lamond.
Final Score: Jr. Eagles 4, Hyland Hills 3.

Congratulations to the Colorado Jr. Eagles Midget Minor A-2 team for winning the CDYHL Midget Minor A Championship.
In a incredibly close and competitive game the Midget Minor A-2 team
nipped the Eagles Midget Minor A-1 team by a score of 3 to 2 Sunday
02-20-2005 at the Edge Ice Arena.
The A-1 team jumped out to a 2 to 0 lead on goals by Sami Stornelli and Alex Maul. But Mike Caple's A-2 team did not give up and came fighting back with three goals highlighted by the winning goal by Brett Marcovich which catapulted the A-2 team to the Eagles FIRST league championship!
This accomplishment highlights just how strong the Colorado Jr. Eagles
are especially at the Midget division. The two Midget A teams finishing
1st and 2nd in the league and the Midget Minor AA team preparing for
the state championship later this week.

Over the
weekend of Feb 4th-6th 2005 the Jr. Eagles Midget Minor AA team went up
to Casper Wyoming to play two game against the Casper Oilers Midget
Major AA team.
The Casper Midget Major AA team were fantastic hosts and even had
promoted the weekends action to the local hockey fans which paid off
creating a full house for Saturday nights game. The local NBC news
affiliate (channel 13) was at each game filming highlights that were
aired on the local news broadcast.
For two periods of the first game the Eagles and the Oilers went
scoreless and the action was fast and physical. Early in the third
period Matt McCauley ripped a beautiful one-timer which found the right side of the net. Later in the third period Chris Aarvig scored and the Eagles went on to win 2-0. Andy Otten was marvelous in goal maintaining the shutout.
The next morning the Oilers were determined to to break their scoring
slump but it was the Eagles who struck first and went on to win the
game 7 to 4. Nate Williams scored twice in the game, Nate Gordon, Colin Kuhn, J. J. Tartarini, Chris Aarvig and Jordan Guttormson added goals as well. It was a huge weekend for the entire Jr. Eagles team including Dylan Thede with multiple assists, Spencer Wilson with some huge heads up play that lead to goals and of course the defense; Byron Davis, Hank Stabeneau, Dominic Guttormson, Matt McCauley, Thomas Streeter and Austin Gunner all played outstanding!
Both Eagles goalies, Andy Otten and Mike Huffman were outstadning during this two game series. (Mike played fantastic even though he was feeling under the weather).
