| Eagles Girls Excel on the Road |
|
When the Colorado Junior Eagles Girls U19 team looked at their schedule at the beginning of the season they knew that January was going to be a grueling month. With three long road trips in a row and a string of tough games to play there was no doubt that January would be a very challenging month.
But the Eagles girls had their best month ever in January. The Eagles girls had to travel to Gunnison to play Telluride and Gunnison, then off to Steamboat the next weekend and finally landed in Breckenridge the final weekend of the month. And the only REC team they would face during that stretch would be Summit (all the rest were competitive bracket teams). Out of all of these games and road trips the Eagles girls lost only one league game and that was to Telluride. The Eagles girls beat Gunnison, tied Steamboat and also beat a scrappy Summit team. The Eagles girls racked up 5 of a possible 8 points on the road. But more importantly the Eagles girls team really bonded on these trips and had a blast skating late at night on the frozen ponds in Gunnision, and hanging out in the various rinks, motels and restaurants along the way. NOTE: The Eagles girls would like to thank Steamboat and especially Summit and Gunnison for the awesome hospitality that we encountered during our visit. Summit went out of their way to accommodate our team when there was an unforeseen traffic jam on I-70 while we were in route to the game. And Gunnison went out of their way to allow us to skate late into the night on their ice-rinks and frozen pond. What a blast! Thank you! |
